A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Basra discussed the pictorial representation of concepts in contemporary composition 
The thesis presented by the researcher Ayoub benaw Hassoun included the subject of human thought and its infinite vastness, which is based on language and different language even ideas and beliefs differ, and in order to have stores of ideas and abbreviations for the cognitive range, man has invented concepts that express all these requirements and mental corrections.
The thesis discussed the idea of constructing concepts and formulating them in the intellectual field, abstraction, identification, integration of concepts and representations of concepts as visual images in plastic art.
The thesis concluded that each is partly a pictorial representation of such an abstract concept as (freedom), (love), (fear), (alienation), (authenticity), (pain) and (nostalgia) ...Etc ... If it is widely circulated to turn into a holistic concept that is specific and personalized, and from there it turns into an icon, it is an artistic concept.
