Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mohannad Jawad al-Asadi, president of the University of Basra, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nasser Samari Jafar, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, the audio-visual department at the faculty organized the University Documentary Film Festival for its second session, on the stage of the Faculty of Arts.
The ceremony began with the playing of the Iraqi national anthem, followed by a speech by the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Professor Dr. Nasser Samari, who stressed the cultural and social importance of the documentary, pointing to its active role in highlighting community issues and highlighting topics related to the culture and identity of the city of Basra.
For his part, Dr. Qusay Abdul Abbas, head of the audio-visual department, explained in his speech that documentary films are an artistic tool for reading and analyzing reality, and contribute to raising the level of artistic production within the city, by turning a real event into an effective semantic speech.
The founder of the festival, Mr. Essam Jafar, pointed out that the festival in its second edition presented twenty documentary films prepared by students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, through which they expressed stories rooted in the depth of the city of Basra, which spans its history for more than a thousand years, stressing that the documentary film is a sober expressive means for college students.
The festival also included artistic performances by the University Choir, to conclude the event with the distribution of certificates of appreciation and prizes to the participants and the winners of the students.
The festival reflects the University of Basra's interest in visual arts as a tool for cultural and creative communication, and emphasizes the University's role in supporting student energies and developing them within an integrated academic and artistic vision.
