A master's thesis at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, examined the work of the objective equivalent in contemporary Iraqi painting. The thesis aims to identify the functions of the objective equivalent in contemporary Iraqi painting.
The thesis concluded that the contemporary Iraqi drawings were affected by the political and psychological conditions and their projections in the artistic achievement. The stylistic feature in contemporary Iraqi drawings is characterized by a move away from direct expressions and an intensification of meaning. The idea of an objective equivalent lies around finding a similar one that expresses the feeling to be conveyed.
