A master's thesis in the College of Fine Arts at Basra University examined the dual consciousness and the subconscious in contemporary Iraqi painting.
The message presented by student Nour Abdul Karim Mahmoud included four chapters. The first chapter included the research problem and what resulted from consciousness and the unconscious in art by dealing with works of contemporary Iraqi art. While the second chapter included four topics, between the first topic defining the concept of consciousness and the unconscious, the second section was concerned with dealing with consciousness and the unconscious in the philosophy of beauty and psychology, and the third study on consciousness and the unconscious in the art of (drawing specifically), and the fourth topic was on consciousness and the unconscious in contemporary plastic art. The artist was keen that the form of the artwork does not directly indicate its content, with his desire to introduce the element of mystery and surprise the recipient.
It showed the importance of research in revealing aesthetics in the duality of consciousness and the unconscious.
The research concluded .. that contemporary Iraqi painting was launched from the very artist that represents the conscience of society, its concerns, concerns and anxieties, as consciousness is a reflection of the artist’s feeling.
