A master's thesis at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Basra examined the effectiveness of appropriation in contemporary sculpture.
The thesis presented by the researcher Muthanna Taleb Faleh al-Kanani aims to reveal the effectiveness of appropriation in contemporary sculpture.
The message included an explanation of the concept of appropriation, which represents the tool in which the artist expresses his appropriated self in a world where cases of isolation, appropriation, objectification and penetration of cultures appear within the lived reality.
The thesis concluded that the effectiveness of appropriation is by undermining the aesthetic centralities of a classical nature (symmetrical beauty, balanced beauty, and symmetrical form) as opposed to the fragmentary, ugly, and aesthetics of distortion, which shows a modern artistic language more interconnected with the postmodern era.
