In line with the directives of the Ministry of higher education and scientific research, and under the patronage of the president of Basra University, Dr. Mohannad Jawad al – Asadi, and under the supervision of the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dr. Nasser Samari Jaafar, the Faculty of Fine Arts – women's affairs unit-opened an art exhibition entitled "Art Against Addiction", coinciding with the launch of the anti-drug week.
The exhibition aims to highlight the dangers of addiction as one of the dangerous phenomena that threaten the structure of society, and to harness visual arts as an effective awareness-raising means to send guidance messages that contribute to reducing the spread of this phenomenon.
The dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Basra, professor Dr. Nasser Samari Jafar, stressed that the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts have a great ability to express the pests that threaten society through artistic and theatrical works that carry influential awareness messages. He explained that the students ' creative products are able to reach the recipient in the best way, thus enhancing the role of art in confronting negative phenomena and consolidating community awareness.
The exhibition included a collection of artworks executed in a variety of materials and styles, which embodied the students ' visions towards the social and psychological effects of drugs. These works were completed under the supervision of assistant teacher Nourse Hamid Majid, who stressed the importance of the role of art in supporting awareness campaigns and enhancing community awareness of the danger of addiction.
