The College of Fine Arts holds the first annual festival for the arts of Arabic calligraphy and shaping the one dimension

Under the patronage of the President of Basra University, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Dr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kanani, supervised

The College of Fine Arts at Basra University held the first annual festival of Arabic calligraphy and one-dimensional formation, which was attended by the Dean of Arabic Calligraphy in Basra, Abdul Karim Hassan Al-Ramadan, a group of faculty professors and a number of talented artists and calligraphers in Basra

 The exhibition included 60 artworks by a group of calligraphers whose styles varied between khatt al-jali, al-diwani, kufic, naskh, al-raqa 'and thuluth, and used both vertical and horizontal rectangular styles

The festival started with an artistic lecture entitled (Arabic Calligraphy Our Identity) by Dr. Mohsen Ali, the hall supervisor, in which he talked about the history and importance of Arabic calligraphy and its plastic contents, and the most prominent of its pioneers, and in which he reviewed a number of important artistic works in Arab composition. Then the President of the University honored the artist Major Abdul Karim Hassan Ramadan with the College Shield

In its first edition, the festival aims to revive calligraphy and the cultural heritage of the city of Basra, set the rules for writing calligraphy, support talents, stimulate thought, and identify types of calligraphy

In conclusion, Ramadan suggested erecting a monument in Arabic calligraphy in public squares that contain all methods and types of calligraphy, and continuing to hold exhibitions and workshops to cultivate talents and support talented people. It is worth noting that the festival will last for three days at the college’s grand exhibition hall
