A master's thesis at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, examined the works of neo-historicism in the works of the artist Taher Habib. The thesis presented by the researcher (Wejdan Shahid Muhammad) included the topic of neo-historicism, which is a post-structural critical trend that emerged after the mid-twentieth century in the United States of America to expand its scope in The entirety of cultural, literary and undermining studies, with an operational orientation that emphasizes the understanding of work as artistic and literary texts and discourses within its historical contexts.
The thesis discussed the concept of modern historicalism and the transfer of this concept from literature to work in the field of plastic art, especially contemporary Iraqi painting, within a research methodology.The thesis concluded that neo-historicism constituted an epistemological extension of many critical concepts such as ancient historicism, cultural criticism and the theory of the receiver and reception to form a whole cultural path that can be attached to contemporary curricula because of its working premises approaching modern and contemporary critical theories.
