The Division of Continuing Education at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basrah, held a symposium entitled Representations of the Bourgeoisie in Modern European Painting
The symposium moderated by M. M. Saja Yasser Hussein and lectured by M. Dr. Ali Sharif Al-Saraifi included a subject that represented a social phenomenon that originated in Europe from long periods up to the medieval period, but it appeared clearly in the period of the Renaissance, passing through the era of Enlightenment, and ending with the period of Modernity and what we care about in terms of art and beauty, it is a phenomenon represented in art, especially the art of painting, and this began since the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, Realism and Romanticism Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, and Surrealism, and it is remarkable that among these schools there were those who glorified the bourgeoisie, such as the Impressionist school and what followed it, Expressionism, and Cubism, while there were some schools that were indignant and discontented with it, as is the case in the schools of Futurism, Dadaism, and Surrealism, according to the aesthetic requirements of each school.
One of the main objectives of the symposium is to shed light on the representations of this social phenomenon, which is the bourgeoisie on art, especially the art of painting.
The symposium was also attended by a group of professors, staff and students of the College of Fine Arts.
