Under the patronage of the president of the University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Mohannad Jawad Kazim, and with the direct support of the dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Assistant Prof. Dr. Ali Abdullah al-Kanani, the activities of the first university Documentary Film Festival were launched in Basra with the participation of (18) films through students of the audio-visual arts department at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
The dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, A.M.In his speech, Dr. Ali Al-Kenani described the festival as an artistic event and an international student festival because it contains all the qualified specifications, starting from the preparations to the supervising committees and logistics matters.he also thanked all the teachers of the audio-visual arts department for commemorating this great achievement.
About the participating films, al-Kanani said that(18) films have been selected by judging technical committees, which will be shown over two days, and this will be a good opportunity to get acquainted with the quality of documentary films, hoping that there will be documentaries highlighting the work of all state institutions and departments, as well as prominent figures in Basra.
The director of the festival and the supervisor of the films, Essam Jafar, explained that the dream has become a reality and this is the fatigue and effort of the students in presenting their visions.hashtak will also be launched entitled (Basra, the capital of Iraqi cinema), as this festival represents the first in Iraq to make a documentary film and see the students competing with love and waiting to watch their films with passion and enthusiasm.
A number of students participating in the festival said that our participation in the festival came to highlight our artistic energy, as well as the implementation of what has been studied on the ground, and also we will have an incentive through the evaluation of the competent committees of our participating films.
