A master's thesis at the College of Fine Arts, University of Basra, examined the directing treatment of ugliness in the contemporary Iraqi theater show.

The thesis presented by the researcher (Rasha Raad Mutashar) included the idea of ​​directorial treatment of ugliness in the contemporary Iraqi theatrical performance. And since ugliness was one of those concepts that the director's thought worked on within the limits of the theatrical scene to embody it in various forms that elevate the strength of the topic presented to the recipient.

The aim of the thesis...is to be able to denounce the concept of ugliness and visually embody it in the theatrical performance through the gateway to the directing treatment practiced by the director in his performance

The thesis concluded: The image of ugliness is in not forming its structure on stage through the inconsistency and harmony of its elements with each other, which draws an unstable visual form, and it also provokes disgust and repulsion in the theatrical performance and causes internal confusion for the recipient person
